Bangalore Alumni Meet (Sansmaran)- 2005 Dear CetBytes, It was 6th of August 2005, a cloudy Saturday afternoon when CETians witnessed Sansmaran getting older by one more year. Sansmaran05 – an annual event of CET Bangalore chapter – unfolded itself with a bigger enthu and elan and with a focused vision to make CET a great place to study. The event was organized in Spice Garden (off Airport road towards ITPL in Bangalore). Its 10:45 am when Deba Bhai(1989 batch) and Debu Bhai (1992 batch)first came in followed by CETians from 1989 to 2005 batch. The participation of outstation Alumni along with their family from Chennai, IIT- Kharagpur, Mumbai, Rameswaram and Hyderabad made Sansmaran-05 livelier and really proved one point that it’s the will than anything else that matters. We all are proud of them. The welcome drinks and starters were followed by lighting of the auspicious lamp by our beloved faculty Prof TKPatra (I&E Eng Dept.) and Prof HKDas (Civil Eng Dept.) and some TrendCETters to share the honors. The lamp lighting ceremony was followed by a heart touching philosophical (welcome) talk by Prof Debabrata Das (Deba Bhai) who emphasized the 3Ms described by the great son of the India -Swami Vivekanand...{Mother, Matrubhumi (where we are born)and Education (through wich we earn our bread and butter)}. The keynote address by Deba Bhai and Sumitra (2001 batch) made everybody nostalgic about the old college days. The objectives and the roadmap of Bangalore chapter were nicely put forward by Prof Deba Bhai and Sumitra. The Bangalore Alumni Chapter's bigger vision is to give something back substantial to our 3rd Mother --Education i.e. our beloved institute. Then we had the "Parichay"--CETians introducing themselves to the gathering. It was very much amazing to see the outstation candidates with family as well as their kids joining the event too. Then the guests of the day Prof TKPatra and Prof HKDas were honored with bouquet and mementos by Pradosh (2005 batch) and Pradyumna (2005 batch). As we all boast to have two of CET faculties present with us in the Meet, their views and suggestions for the alumni body are noteworthy too. Prof HKDas stressed on building the campus infrastructure properly with adequate in-campus hostel facilities for students, in-campus residence for faculty, laboratory facilities and required number of teaching staff to have more productivity in research and more focus in academics. His poetic way of describing the points really stunned everybody. He also stressed for the alumni body to put effort for bringing autonomy in academics and financial activities to achieve a unique spot in the globe of academic/research institutes. Prof TKPatra was highly impressed with the Alumni Meet again in Bangalore and stressed on Summer Training program for students at different organizations. He also focused on filling up permanent post for teachers. He described that research and academic Excellency can be achieved by having colleagues of similar interest and devotion for the same. He stressed on organizing seminars/talks in CET to bridge the gap of the latest technology in industry and the book(-ish) style of teaching at the institute. As we all know "Well begun is half done"---This Year's Sansmaran was full of enthusiastic alumni who had gathered for a noble cause for our institute. Deba Bhai continued with the following points that formed the agenda for Sansmaran-05. -------------------------------------- 1. Fund raising for the library. In addition to the excellent work by Chennai Alumni Chapter and UK Alumni Chapter towards Library infrastructure improvement, now the foremost task for us is to continue with fund raising to have a beautiful library in the campus. The foundation put for this effort was well described by Binay Gupta (from Chennai Chapter). Chitta Bhai cited the fund raised by Bangalore Chapter till now and the road map that we have to follow. Mr. Satya Mishra (VP, Alumni Association) will send an email regarding membership to the CET group. 2. Linguistic Lab The Bangalore Alumni Chapter has agreed to support the linguistic lab for research in Oriya Language in CET. Debu bhai(1992 Batch) suggested to have soft copies of the books in a server instead of putting a lot of racks and voluminous books!!! Now the Alumni has to work if it is a feasible idea to go for as it requires a great effort in inter networking in the campus as well as availability and maintenance of a good number of PCs/laptops!!! 3. Summer training arrangement for students Suggestions were for one time summer training either in 3rd year or 4th year for a longer period and the alumni association to help in arranging in various organizations here. The team has to talk to the Principal and training/placement department of the institute for this to know the feasibility. This was well put forward by Rajashree (2001) and Biswaksen (2000) batch. 4. Help in Campus recruitment Bangalore Alumni chapter's help in last year's campus recruitment was appreciated by everybody. The kudos go to Prasanta Panda (2000 batch) and Sashi Bhai (1996 batch). This trend needs to continue with bigger form and we must see more companies visiting the campus in the coming years. 5. Mentoring Bangalore Chapter is planning to offer at least 5 projects for final year students starting from this year. In the next visit to the Institute campus, we will be discussing these with the faculty and students. We are in the process of forming a core group for technical assistance and guidance for projects. Also efforts are there to evaluate if the training and project can be provided together!!! 6. Upgrading the course work where-ever possible One core group of Bangalore Alumni will work with the faculty to see if some courses related to the present day demand can be included in the course work or if it can be taught besides the course work. Mrs Deepika (2001 batch), Biswaksen and Ajit Sahoo(2000 batch)suggested to put effort to rechristen some of the branches (e.g. "Electrical" to "Electrical & Electronics" and "I&E" to "E&I").The efforts put by Nihar kanta Moharana( 2000 batch) and Sudhansu (2000 batch) in giving technical talks in CET campus was well appreciated by the Alumni Chapter. 7. Arrangements for stay of students coming to Bangalore in search of job Alumni will look at some way of arranging the stay for the Cetians coming to Bangalore in search of job. The details regarding accommodation and concerned persons etc need to be published in the alumni website. 8. Silver Jubilee celebration Bangalore Alumni Chapter should play a significant role in the celebration of Silver Jubilee Year (the current year) of CET by arranging technical conference/seminar or project exhibition or arranging guest talks and funding to the institute for the event. The feasibility w.r.t. fund collection is being worked out now. 9. Student grievance cell Deba Bhai suggested having a Student Grievance Cell to monitor the problems faced by current students at the institute. Debu bhai (1992 Batch) also suggested inviting at least 2 students to Bangalore Meet from next year onwards to know a better picture of the voices/expectations/concerns of the in-campus students. 10. Circulation of Financial Report One core group need to be formed to monitor the progress of the alumni activities. The Bangalore chapter should publish the financial report of all the expenses and have to work with Mr. Bhabani Sahoo (Bhabani Bhai) regarding this. We need to work out to make the donations to the Alumni fund as tax free so as to get a bigger fund :-). -------------------------------- We had a very sumptuous lunch (after the item number 6 above) which gave a break of the brainstorming session to interact with the fellow Cetians...The discussion again continued till item number 10 above to make way for games and entertainment. Sansmaran-05 Mementos were delivered to each one present in the event. Then followed the games of Making Money---“Kaun Banega Centurion”!!! The game was excellently organized by Biswaksen. Now Amitabh Bhachan got a big contestant for his role in KBC program!!! The people who got to the hot seat for centurions were Vijay (2000 batch), Kishor (2000 batch) and Dhabaleswar (2003 batch). Then we had Team building games conducted by Sumitra with lots of fun and brain-work!!! Those include "Family Hunting", "Memory Solitaire" and "Punch-line Quiz". Finally Kachara Team emerged as winners!!! Snacks/Tea/Coffee was getting cold and the participants preferred to again have finger chips/ harabhara kabab, babycorn fry/Bara etc!!!Then followed the open forum discussion on various points mentioned in the above items...Vote of Thanks was delivered by Biswaksen citing the efforts by the other CET Alumni chapters, our seniors, teachers and the Sansmaran Organizers. Finally the highlight of the entertainment was "Oriya Antaksharee" beautifully conducted by Ajit (2000 batch) near the pool side lawn. We could not believe that our dear HKDas sir could sing the songs/poems starting from KabiSamrat Upendra Bhanja's era to Jagannath Janana to the very very classical/modern songs!!! It was getting darker, and we all had to catch up with our weekend schedule. The event ended with Atul Sinha's (2001 batch) superb sayaris. Ajit’s knowledge on Oriya songs / movies & Atul’s command on sayaris stumped all of us & for a moment we had to really think whether CET stands for College of EnterTainment. Sansmaran-05 … a great occasion to go back in memory lane & to cherish the college days along with our friends … came to an end with a promise of implementing the core points raised by the members and making it still bigger next time... Thanks to all those who attended the event. It was indeed a great effort by the Sansmaran Team (Deba Bhai, Shakti Bhai, Madhu Bhai(1997 batch), Chitta Bhai, Biswaksen, Sudhansu, Ipsita(2001 batch), Rajashree(2001 batch), Sumitra, Piyush(2003 batch), Dhabaleswar). A ton of thanks to Debasmit Bhai, Bhabani Bhai, Satya Bhai, Sashi Bhai and Gantayet Bhai(1989 batch) for their constant encouragement & guidance and to the out-station alumni for their participation. The presence of the couples (Mrs. Susila(2000 batch) & Mr. Udayanath with kid Nikita, Mrs Deepika(2001 batch) & Jyoti Bhai (1997 batch) and Mrs Lisa & Sarbeswar (2000batch)) and their participation in the event was really amazing. Last but not the least, many many heart-felt thanks to the Spice Garden hotel management for their excellent co-operation and help. May this great effort grow with time by the grace of the Almighty and Long Live CETBytes Spirit.
